This Code of Conduct (CoC) outlines the mandatory standards of behaviour expected of all members, players, coaches, volunteers, parents, and spectators (collectively, "Members") of North Ribblesdale RUFC (NRRUFC).
This Code is designed to be fully consistent with and compliant with the principles and regulations established by the Rugby Football Union (RFU), particularly concerning discipline (RFU Regulation 19), safeguarding, and integrity. All Members are expected to be aware of and comply with the RFU's rules, which underpin this document.
Adherence to this Code is mandatory, and any breaches will result in investigation and potential disciplinary action under the NRRUFC Disciplinary Policy.
The Core Values of Rugby: TREDS
All Members must consistently uphold the RFU's Core Values in all club activities and interactions:
• Teamwork: Encourage and support all colleagues and opponents. Recognise that success is built on collaboration and mutual effort. Place the team first.
• Respect: Show high regard for match officials, coaches, administrators, opponents, spectators, and the laws of the game.
• Enjoyment: Foster a positive, fun, and welcoming atmosphere for all participants, regardless of age or ability.
• Discipline: Maintain self-control and adhere strictly to the laws of the game, the rules of the Club, and the decisions of match officials.
• Sportsmanship: Be humble and generous in victory, and dignified and courteous in defeat.
1. Conduct Expected of All Members
General Behaviour
• Inclusion: Treat all people, regardless of age, gender, ability, ethnic origin, religion, sexual orientation, disability, or background, with absolute dignity and respect. Any form of discrimination, harassment, or verbal abuse is strictly prohibited.
• Language: Refrain from using offensive, abusive, or unnecessarily aggressive language in any club environment.
• Alcohol & Substance Misuse: Consume alcohol responsibly on club premises. No alcohol or illicit drugs are to be consumed by any person actively participating in training, playing, or officiating duties.
• Safety: Adhere to all health and safety guidelines established by the Club and report any hazards immediately to a committee member.
Integrity
• Anti-Doping: Comply fully with the UK Anti-Doping (UKAD) and World Rugby anti-doping regulations. Players must ensure that any medication is compliant with these rules.
• Betting: No Member involved in a match (e.g., player, coach, official) shall bet on any match or outcome involving NRRUFC, nor provide inside information for betting purposes.
Club Property and Facilities
• Respect the Club’s facilities, playing surfaces, equipment, and changing rooms.
• Assist in maintaining the cleanliness and order of the club grounds.
• Supervise all personal guests brought onto the premises to ensure their compliance with this Code.
2. Conduct for Players
• Play hard but play fair. Always observe the laws and spirit of the game.
• Accept the decisions of the match officials without question, dissent, or aggressive protest. The captain must communicate respectfully on behalf of the team.
• Maintain control of your temper at all times. Acts of aggression, violence, or retaliation are gross misconduct.
• If injured, immediately seek guidance from the team medical staff or coach. Never play or train against medical advice.
• Wear the appropriate club kit and protective equipment (e.g., mouthguards) as required by RFU regulations.
• Commit to attending training sessions punctually. If unable to attend, notify the coach or captain as far in advance as possible.
• Give 100% effort and focus during all drills and instruction periods.
3. Conduct for Coaches, Officials, and Volunteers
• Lead by example, promoting the Core Values and setting a high standard for sportsmanship and professionalism.
• Prioritise the long-term welfare, safety, and development of all players over short-term match results.
• Safeguarding: All coaches and volunteers working with players under 18 or vulnerable adults must:
− Hold current, appropriate RFU-approved DBS checks and safeguarding qualifications.
− Be familiar with the Club's and RFU’s Safeguarding Policies.
− Report any concerns about a child's welfare or protection immediately to the Club Safeguarding Officer.
− Maintain professional boundaries and avoid situations that could be misinterpreted.
• Maintain appropriate and current RFU-accredited coaching or officiating qualifications.
• Ensure all training and playing practices are safe, appropriate to the age and ability of the players, and grounded in positive encouragement.
4. Conduct for Spectators and Parents
• Positive Support: Provide only positive support and encouragement for the NRRUFC team and individuals, avoiding negative criticism.
• Respect for Opposition: Applaud and acknowledge good play by both teams. Respect the opposition’s players, coaches, and spectators.
• Respect for Officials: Match officials are not to be verbally abused or harassed under any circumstances. Accept their authority and decisions.
• Non-Interference: Do not interfere with the coaches or players during a match or training session. Do not enter the playing enclosure without the express permission of a match official or coach.
• Focus on Enjoyment: Remember that young players participate for their own enjoyment, and results are secondary.
5. Social Media and Digital Conduct
All Members are personally responsible for their conduct on social media, messaging apps, and all digital platforms.
• Harassment: Do not post, share, or circulate content that is abusive, discriminatory, harassing, defamatory, or constitutes bullying against any Member, opponent, official, or any affiliated organisation.
• Confidentiality: Do not post private, sensitive, or confidential information relating to the Club, its staff, or its Members.
• Public Representation: Any content posted or shared relating to the Club or its activities is considered public and reflects on the reputation of NRRUFC. Members must be aware of this responsibility.
6. Breaches of this Code
Any breach of this Code of Conduct will be investigated and addressed in accordance with the North Ribblesdale RUFC Disciplinary Policy.
