Old Eds: Vice-Presidents, former players and friends of the Club, Reunion on Saturday September 20th 2014 Vs Old Laurentians: 1pm free lunch, 3pm K.O.
Hello to you all, including first-time recipients of these emails.
Circulation currently stands at 390 and I realistically expect this to swell to 500+ in time. Just goes to show how many lives the Eds have been a part of.
Please note in your Diary the 1st Home Game in M2W(S) 2014/15 season; on Saturday 20th September Vs Old Laurentians, a favourite opponent. This coming season will see the dawn of a new coaching era under the tutelage of Andy Savage: Old Ed, ex-Coventry scrum-half, coach to Leicester Lions and brother of Steve Savage (quarry runs will probably be back on the agenda!). The club is undoubtedly gaining momentum on and off the pitch. Fantastic!
The Eds are blessed with great Management, coaches, physio and support staff, generous sponsors (more later) and talented players. A five try drubbing of league champions Earlsdon in the last game of the season, in front of a huge Weddington crowd, is testament to it.
I can report that the Annual Dinner was equally brilliant, if not more-so, than those that rest in my distant memory.
George Chutter was an ideal speaker for the occasion and some of the less serious awards were as witty and funny as I've seen or heard, I laughed so much it hurt. By the way; Shutey, Moff and Foxy paid for the players' tickets! (If you were on the same table as me I still have remaining £72 of the kitty, so make sure you are there in September, it will be spent).
A few more words about sponsors. There is a deep well of goodwill towards the Eds, most notably demonstrated by Messers: Foxton, Shute and Moffit. Thanks guys for keeping things going, we really appreciate it. And of course reunion match-day sponsors: Bob Massey and Clive Ponder, Mac Arnold and Chris Foxton, thanks for underwriting these get-togethers; you make it possible to host them risk-free. I hope you enjoy the brilliant atmosphere you help to create. If any new sponsors would like a bit of publicity I'm looking for a sponsor for the 6th December league game Vs Newbold on Avon. What a generous lot you are!
And so to September 20th:
You are cordially invited to attend the free pre-match lunch and enjoy some great company over a few late-summer beers/drinks. 1pm start for 3pm K.O. Again we are indebted to the generosity of Chris Foxton who will be sponsoring this event, thanks Chris:

It is now a custom that we raise a glass to the memories we share of Scratch Arnold, Keith Betney, Simmo, Dick Moreton, Stuart Pratt, Tut Moore, Don Charles and Alan Cadman; actually it is in their memory I organise these gatherings.
I can guarantee it will be a great afternoon at Weddington and I look forward to seeing you. A warm welcome awaits so please let me know if you can make it, or not? I will send out reminders later in the summer. Have a great one.
Best regards
Ged O'Neill
PS
Last league home game gathering will be on 11th April 2015 Vs Old Coventrians.
I may also try to arrange something on 6th December Vs Newbold on Avon but I will gauge your appetite for this in September.
