A winning end to this seasons league home games for our first XV.

Old Leamingtonians 59 - Broadstreet II 0

This was a game of two halves for OL’s, the first 40 minutes opened with a ten minutes sequence of attacking rugby that put the visitors under constant pressure from 15 man open play rugby by OL’s that resulted with two tries, the first by number eight Callum Gosse who picked up the ball at the base of the scrum and ran strongly through the receding Broadstreet defence and the second from full back Joe O’Loghlen who completed a flowing three-quarters move. Neither try was converted.

The game continued with OL’s in command but no further score was registered until the stroke of half time when another flowing move ended with wing Simon Hemming scoring in the left corner of the field. This try also went unconverted but half time was reached with OL’s in comfortable control of the game with a fifteen points to nil lead.

The second period of play saw OL’s raise the level of the game and completely dominate the visitors playing expansive open play rugby with the forwards dominating the Broadstreet pack providing quick ball for scrum half Toby Lord and fly half Ben Gordon to dictate play, using the full width of the pitch in either direction going forward creating chance after chance of scoring opportunities, eight of which ended with tries. Alex Witchell added try number three which was converted by Callum Semple.

This was quickly followed by driving forward play that saw the visitors driven back towards their goal line from where prop Mike Robertson finished the move with a line bursting surge to touch down. Callum Semple again converted. Further speedy open play rugby saw a Broadstreet venture into the OL’s half of the pitch end with a turn over ball won by the OL.s forwards and a flowing threequarters move ended with Connor McLenaghan touching down try number 7.

By this stage OL’s had the game in full control and the positive open play created by forward dominance set up the home side for further tries at regular intervals,. The game continued and the next try quickly followed with a forwards driven try from Charlie Thwaites before Alex Witchell added his second try of the game. The next OL’s player to get his name on the score sheet was number 6 Ollie Craig before Mike Robertson added his second try.

OL’s continued to dominate the game with a tiring Broadstreet being put under constant pressure and with the game drawing to a close full back Joe O,Loghlen added his second try. Only two of the eleven tries in the match were converted and OL’s ended the game with a 59 point to 0 victory.

OL’s next game is away to Manor Park on 23rd March with a 3.0pm kick off.
