Grasmere Primary school triumph

Grasmere Primary school triumph

Anthony Murray28 Sep 2012 - 17:17

Local school emerged victors of the 2nd annual Sharks tag tournament today at Hackney Marshes

30 children turned up on what proved to be a very wet Friday afternoon for 2 hours of fun rugby.
Following several weeks of coaching within local schools by Old Street and Shoreditch Sharks, 3 schools each brought 2 teams of 5 players to the competition. The schools were Grasmere, Gainsborough and DeBeauvoir. Old Street coaches provided a ½ hour coaching session for each school before the tournament kicked off, each team playing 4 group stage matches, with the top two competing in the final, which turned out to be a tense affair between Grasmere and Gainsborough. At full time the scores were level 3-3, but rather than reverting to penalties or drop kicks (well you can hardly cut the trophy in half ) the winning team was a delighted Grasmere, by merit of more wins and tries scored in the group stages. Congratulations to them and all those who took part.

Big thanks go to Dave Pritchard, Tom Eldridge, Bast Down, and Mike Bryan for their coaching and refereeing on the day. Victory probably felt sweetest to Dave Pritchard who had been coaching Grasmere over the last few weeks, well done Dave who now takes the mantle of the Stuart Lancaster of Sharks tag rugby.
Junior rugby takes place at Hackney Marshes every Sunday from 11.00am come along and give it ago.
