Recent signing from Goole is Jack Wakefield, an electrician who is at home in the centre of defence or midfield. He sees the Ingfield outfit as an established Evo-Stik side and was delighted when Craig Elliott showed an interest in him, being in the northen division is one of the reasons he joined the club.
I spent most of my youth at Scunthorpe United from 13-17 before being realised at YTS. I then played with a few clubs; Frickley under19s, South Kirkby 1st and Hemsworth Miners Welfare. Wayne Benn then took me to Goole AFC where I spent 2 seasons before this recent move.
Despite playing in Division one south this season the Ossett Town side are not unknown to Jack “I can remember playing against Danny Patterson when he was at Handsworth horrible to play against and so is his brother Rich. They’re both similar type of players to myself, ratters, don’t give the opposition a minute on the ball. As I say horrible to play against, but what you want in your side. The Patterson’s are top players for this league.
With recent postponements Jack’s only involvement so far is the recent draw at Farsley and he is confident the season will go well “the teams got nothing to worry about. Strong, organised and all can play a bit... And that’s with 10 men!”
Jack is looking forward to establishing himself in the home dressing room at Ingfield “every time you walk into a new dressing room it’s a nightmare been the new face but the lads seem quality, there were plenty of banter flying about and I’m sure I’ll fit in just fine”.
Finally, looking at the remainder of the season how does Jack see it? 10 points off the playoffs with 15 games left! It’s there for the taking if you ask me”.
With a positive attitude like that, Wakefield will surely be a fans favourite in no time!
