Otley were left blitzed after a 20-minute onslaught during which Fylde's quick backs scored four tries, leaving the visitors with an uphill task in getting something out of the match.
Soon out of the blocks, Fylde scored in the first minute having regained their kick-off, Luke Fowden scoring in the right-hand corner. This was followed when Henry Hadfield went around the Otley defence to score, Cameron Crampton adding the first of two conversions. These were followed by two further tries by Connor Wilkinson, working with Tom Carleton down the right-hand flank for the first and then latching onto Carleton’s grubber kick to score in the left-hand corner.
Otley got onto the scoreboard after their second incursion into Fylde’s 22. The home side were penalised at the breakdown, and Freddie Watson took the ball cleanly in the line-out, the Otley pack rumbling over for Joe Graham to score just before the half-hour mark. Although they didn’t score in the remaining half, Otley were coming into the game.
After dominating most of the first half, Fylde were on the back foot for most of the second half. Otley’s pack was in the ascendancy, Simon WIllet prominent in the loose. Two debutants Steve Nolson and Ben Magee both came close to scoring. Then in a move that went from right to left, Otley moved the ball in front of Fylde’s line Oli Goss picking up a low pass to go over in the corner. Ben Smith maintained a 100% conversion rate.
For the remainder of the game Otley continued to press and had their chances, Paul Petchey nearly ran onto a Jack Mackie grubber, but the Fylde defence was solid. Otley were unlucky not to get a losing bonus point out of the game.
