An early penalty for offside gave Otley the lead in the first minute. Shortly afterwards George Burkinshaw came on for his 200th league game to replace Jason Moss who was injured. From the restart scrum, Luctonians worked the ball both ways before Charles Meredith scored in the right hand corner.

Otley quickly regained the lead, a Max Johnson kick was collected by Freddie Watson and it was the home side’s turn to work the both ball ways with Owen Doorman finishing off the move. Shortly afterwards Luctonians were penalized for diving over the ball, Smith putting the ball into the cemetery corner. Having collected the line out, Gavin Stead lead the attack with Adam Malthouse scoring and Ben Smith added the conversion. Five minutes Malthouse got his second converted try after Ben Magee’s run sets up another Otley attack.

Otley got their bonus point after a Luctonian’s clearance kick was caught by Paul Petchey on the wing and he moved the ball forward, the move ending with Elliott Morgan running ono a deft grubber kick by Smith, who then added the conversion. Just after the half hour mark, when Luctonians were temporarily down to 14 after a deliberate knock on, Max Johnson starting a move from the back of a scrum and then finishing the move which involved Gavin Stead and Freddie Watson.

With a few minutes left in the half, Otley were caught offside and Meredith was able to get his second try having found a hole in the Yorkshire defence. Luctonians came out for the second half reinvigorated and played nearly 30 minutes without scoring. This relentless pressure told after a series of penalties, which earned Otley a yellow card, flanker Callum Young going over and his try converted by Will Burton. They ramped up the pressure when a kick from just outside their was recycled just before Otley’s line, Rob Lewis scoring with 6 minutes left.

Now looking for a second bonus point Luctonians threw everything at Otley, but a solid defence held firm. The game ended after the visitors failed to release, Ben Smith kicking the ball into touch to deny their relegation adversaries.
