It was a day of celebrations at Cross Green as James Twomey scored four tries to overtake Mark Kirkby as Otley's top try-scorer and again put himself on top for the division this season. Ben Steele made his 200th appearance for the club and scored two tries.
The home side also scored nine tries in a competitive, open match, Ben Cooper nailing some fine touchline conversions as they cemented fifth place.
James Twomey's first try came on 44 seconds. Otley won the ball from their kick-off and it was hurried down the line to the winger who, receiving a knee-high pass, volleyed it forward to chase, collect and go over.
Settling down, Dudley equalised after 12 minutes when winger Duncan Chance was put over, fly half Jon Higgins converting. It was not long after that Otley were adding to their score as their forwards began to exert themselves, twice refusing penalty kicks at goal to go for touch, resulting in two tries for Ben Steele after 16 and 21 minutes with Ben Cooper adding the extras. After conceding a converted try from centre Chris Perry, James Twomey went over again for a 26-14 lead at half-time.
It was Dudley that were quicker off the mark on the resumption with a try from flanker Tom Bissell. But Otley were not to be outdone and back-rower Luke Cole made two fine runs to score twice in three minutes on 49 and 52 minutes. It was then James Twomey’s turn to run in two quick tries on 59 and 62 minutes, the boys presenting him with the easiest of tries to become Otley’s leading try scorer.
DK’s scrum half Connah Jones, hitting back, ran in from a tapped penalty. Michael Coady responded, taking a leaf out of Twomey’s book, chipped the opposition and went on to reclaim the ball to go with nine minutes to go.
Continuing to attack whenever possible, the visitors got winger Matt Farrington over but Otley knew it was a day to remember.
