Initially the impetus was with Huddersfield, successive lineouts built sustained pressure on the Otley line. They won a ninth-minute penalty and kicked for the left corner, winning the line-out and spreading the attack right for centre Tom Hodson's fine long pass to find right winger Nick Rawsthorne in space, scrum half Joel Hinchliffe adding the conversion.
In Otley’s first real chance of the game, with Huddersfield moving the ball across their line when the ball was intercepted by Otley’s back line and driven out to the line giving Harry Hudson a 40 metre dash to into the grandstand corner. Stephen Depledge added the conversion bringing parity back to the sides.
Within five minutes of that score Otley were ahead. Following a line-out in our half, the ball went out to Michael Coady led the charge and although held up, the ball came back to Stephen Depledge who dummied to pass right but instead to wriggle through a gap just right of the posts. Otley’s point machine then grabbed his second try of the game. Starting from a scrum in our own 22, Harry Hudson, who left two defenders for dead before feeding Stephen Depledge on the inside to make the score 19-7.
In the second half Huddersfield re-emerged looking lively, though they were again the architects of their own downfall. Tom O’Donnell was hauled down some 10 metres from the line having run from the half-way line, and a sloppy spilled pass allowed centre Michael Coady to seal the try bonus point after just 43 minutes.
Ten minutes Nazir Karim came off the bench, and just after the hour a move initiated by Tom O’Donnell and Otley’s centres, gave a demonstration of his pace, no defender was able to touch him as he finished off another sensational long-range effort. Stephen Depledge was again true with the boot.
With less than ten minutes to go, James White and Harry Hudson from their 22 to get the ball out to Arnie Ellison to score. Finaly following a line out, Otley’s scrum half got the ball out to James White who passed to centre Jack Mackie. He carved a great line through Huddersfield’s defence for Otley’s seventh try of the game.
After seeing his side climb to fourth in the league, Director of Rugby James Tiffany declared himself delighted with the result. “It was pleasing that we scored two reasonably long-range tries, and that made Huddersfield change their game-plan. We have a talented bunch of players, we scored some nice tries and the replacements made an impact, and we were able to give Chad Harris and Harry Wales debuts off the bench, which is good for the squad and good for the club."
