Ransomes Sports are on the road again this weekend when they travel to face Leiston St. Margarets in the SIL Senior Division on September 3rd KO 2.30 pm.
Both clubs would like to be upwardly mobile and this time out, the Saints at least have some new faces to reflect their ambitions for the new season - they are however, still looking for their first win of the current campaign. A draw at Westerfield last weekend saw them pick up what was an essential and necessary point as they avoided the ominous prospect of ending the first month fruitlee from their endeavours.
There was very little evidence to suggest a summer overhaul has invigorated a team that retained its Senior status in the very last game of last season, and they look set for a trying campaign. Another risible showing from the home side will prompt early relefation fears again.
Ransomes Sports are obviously favourites. They look in rude health following their opening day win, nut they will need to replicate their second half showing against Bildeston from the off if they want to overcome their hosts.
The manner of the victory over Bildeston has particularly pronounced the optimism at Ransomes. Their summer transfer dealings are already looking sensible as they are shrewd with Ricardo Phillips (2) and Jamie Cole netting the Ransomes goals last time out.
Ransomes system is based on getting the best out of their strikers and if they embrace the expectation, they will give variety in attack. Just as important however, will be the demands for more concentration placed on the defence - an essential ingredient for any side if they want to be successful. If Ransomes are intent on making strides up the table, picking up three points in games like this should be a must - something they didn't always do last season. Ransomes will do well though to heed their opponents performances against them last season, and they will not need reminding that the Saints are more than capable of making it an uncomfortable afternoon at Junction Meadow.
