Ransomes Sports 2 Trimley Red Devils 0

Trimley Red Devils were a relieved side early on when Ransomes had a strong penalty appeal for handball waived aside by the match official in the opening minute of this game. The denied penalty proved a sign of things to come and despite dominating the game, Ransomes struggled in front of goal throughout but eventually laboured to a 2-0 win with a goal in either half.
It was an error-strewn affair, a stray pass here, a ball miscontrolled there - it was surprising given the quality of the players but perhaps to be expected given the recent weather conditions. The game failed to ignite as a spectacle.
After last weekend's win, Trimley's hopes would have been high but the fact was that the visitors failed to muster a single shot on target throughout a tepid performance by both teams.
The first half saw Ransomes dominate the game but they were left feeling frustrated. Danny Allen darted across the near post only to see his header from a Ricardo Phillips corner strike the post whilst at the other end, Knights turned in the box only to fire wide.
The breakthrough came for Ransomes on 21 minutes. Some good work from Danny Allen down the left led to Ricardo Phillips being presented with the best chance of the half and the No.10 did not disappoint as he kept his composure to round the keeper and slot home on the angle.
As the first half ended, it was tempting to dwell on Ransomes lack of creativity despite large periods of possession but it never felt like they would crack. There was no panic. They survived the sticky moments when Trimley tried to get a foothold in the game, they held their shape and kept Trimley at bay. Ransomes then managed to pull clear on 67 minutes when a lofted ball over the defence from Adam Todd was collected by Drew Connick and he turned to fire home just inside the post.
Ransomes ability to win the ball high up was a factor in their supremacy which should have seen further goals added. The usually reliable Drew Connick twice pulled his efforts wide of the goal when in his favourite zone.
With Ransomes unable to land any further telling blows and with the clock ticking into added time, substitute Hart had the opportunity of a consolation for the visitors but fired wide of the far post as Ransomes goalkeeper Callum Deacon had a trouble free afternoon.
Ransomes will be slightly frustrated despite the win. They controlled the game but just couldn't find that extra creativity and killer instinct in the final third. They aren't scoring the numbers that they want to, but there's no complaints around their approach work.
For Trimley manager Craig Chidlow, he will look at his team and ask for more intensity and purpose as the two sides meet again in a fortnights time in the Morrison Freight Cup.
