Mike Keeling

Far too old, too slow and his knees are in a dreadful condition to play rugby but he does his best. Plays his best rugby with a hangover or when still under the influence, which is most of the time! Team choirmaster – not because he can sing but because he’s the only one who knows the words!

Geoff Leech

The wrong side of 60, he has had one knee replaced and when the other one is done he may just take the field again, but don’t hold your breath! Likes to sleep a lot and not fussy where – at the bar, in the pub, on the toilet etc… Started out with nothing and still has most of it.

Paul Mair

After a long retirement took up rugby again at the age of 28 as the result of a bet. Leaps like a salmon in the line (when lifted). His subsequent and intemperate carnal feasting has resulted in a number of offspring to keep him through his dotage!

Roger Couling

“Has boots will travel” - Roger has had a good attempt at playing for most of the rugby clubs in England and the honours list is too long to repeat here. As the saying goes – “When he’s good, he’s very, very good but when he’s bad………………..” He likes eating on tour. Never ages.

Keith Roberts

Another one who quietly gets on with it. Now retired, Keith was the the cornerstone of any scrum; rarely going backwards. Likes a pint of Stella now and then, followed by a few more. A real live Action Man, Keith has done most things including diving, caving, climbing, shooting big things in funny countries, sailing and riding fast bikes.

John Corry

Another latecomer to the glorious game after pursuing fame and (spending a) fortune in the world of rallying. A great tourist who puts on a dance display the envy of the world when persuaded, just don’t play loud music late at night! Moved into coaching and has had great success producing County standard players. A loss to the playing side since retiring. Has now taken up flying!!

Murray Patterson

Illegitimate love child of Les Patterson, the Australian cultural attaché. Works in gold mines in nice, safe places such as Bolivia, remote parts of Africa and even Shepton Mallet. Travels the world in search of somewhere as nice as home (Australia), but is still looking. He lives under the illusion that Australia will win the World Cup again one day! Likes to show you what he had for breakfast - usually about 10 minutes after kick off.

David Mair

Now sadly forced into early retirement David would have played rugby sooner but he was too busy making money and children; and power-boating with the rich and famous. Likes fast cars and fast horses(betting on not sex), but rarely gets success with both at the same time. Spends too much time watching football! Cooks a lot.

Simon Holding

Rich, talented and now married with offspring! Lives like a country squire, surrounded by fields and trees. A Public School rugger education followed by Bristol University makes this skilled individual a great utility player. Used to be a Prop until back problems took over, now plays anywhere outside 10. Great hands and strong running lines.

Mark Lansdown

Born and raised on the turnip-tops of life. Played a bit of rugby at school and then retired. Came out of retirement and joined the ‘Buggas’ many years ago mostly for the beer and night clubs, but does his bit when it matters out on the park.

“A Londoner in exile!” Lives in the South West, carving out the easy life with 16 weeks holiday a year whilst considering early retirement. Ben Winson

‘Big Ben’ or ‘Gentle’ Ben, as he’s known, was sadly taken from us all at a ridiculously young age of 37 having battled cancer for 18 months. The world is a poorer place without him and we remember him with affection. His playing career took him from England to New Zealand and then back home to play for Whitchurch RFC(Shropshire) where he was a 1st XV regular.

Kevin Wright

From across the sea and the land of the leprechaun came ex Belfast Harlequins Kevin in search of a new home and found it in the North West of England bringing a quality of No.8 play rarely seen at this level. Big family, kids, dog etc, but still maintains an air of organisation and control others find quite amazing!

If it hadn’t been for injuries, James would almost certainly have made it to the ‘big time’. A well balanced runner with great running lines and nifty in defence. Drinks lager and stays out all night. Travels the world on perpetual 'gap years'. Hopes to 'find himself' one day.

Nigel Ashley

The pocket battleship. Happiest anywhere in the front row but can drop goals as well when needed. Quiet and unassuming, ‘Pipes’ does his talking on the park. Despite appearing to be level headed, ‘Pipes’ has one major character flaw – he works with and actually likes, Edward Paul Mair! Worrying!

James (Jim) Lansdown

The original second generation “Bugga”. As an 18 year old, James was made to do all the running during his first cap playing alongside the old men. Enjoys the open spaces with ball in hand and defends well when needed. Another one who drinks lager and stays out all night.

Duncan Manners

One of life’s good guys, sadly missed. Duncan was always a popular tourist and involved himself fully on and off the park. A great full back who worked hard in defence and picked good lines when going forward. We miss him.

James Keeling

The second generation of Keelings to grace the pitch, he doesn’t however, follow too closely in his father’s shirt size or footsteps. Has been known to shine occasionally; everyone who was there at Kenilworth remembers THAT CATCH, which was even more incredible bearing in mind the state he was in the night before! Ski and Snowboard instructor.

Very little is known about this quiet, former hotel chef except that he claims he’s not fit enough to play rugby and then sprints round the park like a 17 year old - well, for 10 minutes! Knows all the best pubs in town and acts as a night time city guide to the rest of the squad.

Phil Evans

Chirpy, chatty and cheeky – in fact, he’s just like a real scrum half, only smaller! Doubles up as fixture

Will Montgomery

Used to be famous for “Oh go on then, just one more season!” but finally gave up just before turning 60, this legend of Ballymena, has been gracing English rugby fields for more years than we need to know about. Now refereeing It takes Will about 45 minutes AFTER each game to put his knees back in!

Ken Brewster
Likes to roam around the country. Spends his life sending ‘change of address’ cards. Like Roger C, he’s had a fair attempt at playing for as many rugby clubs as he can. Travels down from the frozen wastes of Northumberland, (or somewhere up there), to enjoy his tours. Doesn’t always bring the right kit but he does keep very fit.

Nigel King

One of the “old Buggas”, Nigel has finally had to give up playing, but still plays in his heart. A fan of the great outdoors, he would like to live up a mountain somewhere away from everyone else. A good tourist. Ex-Parachute Regiment.

Angus Fyfe

An Old Rugbeian and heir to a Scotch Whiskey dynasty, Angus likes to live life on the edge – with his wife’s permission that is. What he lacks in drinking stamina he makes up for by running miles around the hills near Buxton. He then complains of torn hamstrings. Has a physio and a personal trainer. Lives in a big house. Likes golf, cricket, hockey and now TENNIS!

Tim Adams

An intellectual, historian. Comes from Purley but doesn’t mention that a lot. Went to Sedbergh where he learned his rugby and then on to University to play some more. Back row / second row – (back problems permitting), a hard man - Tim covers the park and does the hard yards. Short range penalty specialist. Stays sober the night before a tour game! Drinks proper beer.

James Mair

His Uncle Edward Paul was an original 'bugga' and his father a regular for many years. Despite being a mathematician, James loses count of how many pints he's had and what time the last train is to get home! In keeping with family tradition, he plays in the second row, or back row if we need a speedster. Also a fine cricketer. Lives the high life in London..

Nick Ward

All the way from deepest Cornwall, well, Illogan Park actually, Nick has served Queen and country and played rugby all over the place. Softly spoken, Nick like a quiet pint and a good laugh making him the perfect tourist. A back by nature he plays with verve and panache and is equally happy at wing or centre. If you like your chilli sauce HOT, then Nick's your man.

Andrew Corry

Son of the legend that is 'JC' (see above) but doesn't share the front row passion. Plays at 10 or higher and apart from being able to run very fast, he also kicks well. Spends his evenings out on the social scene, often coming home in the small hours dazed and confused!!

Pete Gibson

A giant of a man who no one could ever dislike - despite being a Kiwi. Looks like a night club bouncer - sells fishing tackle! Developed a passion for Thai Whiskey on his debut trip. Dislikes playing in hot weather - but then coming from Canterbury (NZ) he would, wouldn't he! Glad he's on our side as I wouldn't want to tackle him. Comes with a rich pedigree

Yes! another Mair, brother to James, son of the awsome David, Charlie is a fashion trendsetter, but when he's on the pitch he races round doing the hard yards but making it look easy. Has a lot to live up to with the other family Buggas' reputations, but doing nicely with a try on his debut.

George Lansdown

Another son of a Buggas legend. george has decided to man-up and play rugby again after a few years out of the game and follows brother James and father Mark into the side. Likes to socialise and has an eye for a good night out.

Steve Branch

Nickname 'Chaos' When people ask why, we simply suggest they spend about 10 minutes in his company and they'll find out! Ex army, seen a bit of life and the world and plays a good standard despite being at the upper end of the Buggas' age spectrum. Likes a few beers and then a few more, thanks!

Eddie Branch

Son of 'Chaos' Quality player but when he came to make his debut he was injured and so his first outing was delayed by an extra 12 montsh!! Played high level of both codes - league and union so he too is a great asset to the squad. Like his old man, he likes a few beers and then a few more, thanks!

Rick Armstrong

Armstrong by name and armstrong by nature. A sturdy young prop in the new mould - athletic and mobile round the park - even with a hangover! Does something worthwhile and beneficial at HS1 having graduated from Loughborough. Oh, and this boy can sing a song!!! Incredible vocal range - took the wrong career!

Rory Simpson

Another of the Somerset crew and Son of former Bugga, Dave "Simmo" Simpson, Rory is a winger in a scrum hat! Likes to roam the wide spaces looking for the ball. Stays up most of the night, so maybe he's scared of the dark - who knows?

Henry Winsnes

inextricably linked to the Adams family, (nephew of Tim Adams) and will forever be known as "flip-flop man" for his unorthadox matchday outfit of blazer, shirt, ties and flip-flops! Formerly travelled the world as the "Hawkeye" expert with Sky Sports cricket and now a London lawyer so definitely not to be trusted!! (Wasn't Mrs Cherie Blair a lawyer in London? 'nuff said!)

Bob Cooke

Started rugby back in the day of the leather stud, heavy leather ball and post match beer at 1/- a pint ! A bit of a nomadic lifestyle saw Bob playing all over the known world alongside legends such as Steve Bainbridge. Gave it all up for 20+ years and then decided to make a comback after getting the bug back watching son Nick at MRUFC.

Nick Cooke

Nigel Day

president of Wilmslow RFC when he made his RB debut in 2014. A one-club man he has played rugby since the days of the 3 point try and still gads about like a spring lamb. Well, one with athritic knees! Spends all his spare time cycling, running, in the gym, open water swimming etc... Knows his way to the bar and won't let anyone down in the beer stakes. Always smiling.

Phil Adshead

Physio Phil or Florence (as in Nightingale) has been fixing up rugger players bodies for longer than he can remember so he is a useful man to have around. Loves his rugby and wears liniment for aftershave. Fearless in defence and vocal on the field.

Jason Attwood

Footballer turned rugger star, jinks and runs great lines and a tough one to get a hold of. Kicks well too so a great player to have around. Not shy when there's a pint of Guinness to be had and was MoM in his first game for the RB's. Likes the night clubs more than his bed and always great company.

Tom Naul

Super fit Tom traded rugby for cycling but the lure of that elusive invitation to join the RB's had him dusting off his boots. Never without a cheeky grin on his face. Quick out of the blocks whether it's on the field or off to the bar.

Rupert (Rufus) Dixon

Claims to be some sort of a research Dr. but never really provides any detail so maybe he's the lab technician Went to some posh college at Nottingham Uni but admits to drinking the 3 years away. Four or five meals on a match day is par for the course ahead of a few scoops from the Guinness barrel to wash it all down.

Rick Shuttleworth.

Having grown up and taken a very important job doing grown up things, he retired from rugger but came out of this premature rugby retirement when the lure of the 'RBs' finally overwhelmed him. The smartest on the pitch (and off it).

Tom Brewer

The thinking man's rugby player. Does somthing incredibly important in the world of banking in the big City , but finds time to fit in a game or two of rugger at the weekend. Likes to smile a lot and drink beer. Does his talking on the pitch.

Robin Eager

The quiet man, but Eager by name and eager by nature. Runs around looking for the ball. Works a bit of magic now and again. Fitness guru working with the RFU or Premiership clubs. Smiles a lot but we're never quite sure why.
