As the squad prepare to take on Farsley Celtic in the FA Youth Cup on Monday we look back on the pre-season and ask Joint Manager Joe Howson how the squad is shaping up for the coming season.

There’s been many a new face donning the red/black shirts in pre-season, with the squad going through some what of an overhaul on last year.

Joe Howson and Tabby Magida have replaced Alex Craddock and Jody Leeming in the management team and are accompanied by Chris Johnson as goalkeeping coach/physio.

So far 20 new faces have represented the squad in pre-season, with only 5 of last seasons side making the squad this season, and in the 3 games played 14 goals have been scored and 5 conceded against a mix of local opposition.

We have a number of younger players who’ve stepped up from the 17’s here at Shelley and come in from other clubs who have been a pleasure to work with so far. The older lads have also set an example with their attitude and application to training and games overall which makes for a good mix in the squad for the season ahead. We’re looking forward to some competitive games now starting with tough game against Farsley Celtic in the FA Youth Cup.“
