Slough travelled away again, to a far flung corner of Oxford to Alchester (in the sleepy village of Fritwell). The team were missing some key players through injuries etc. with Tony Day coming off a night shift to step up to the plate! Again Slough had a great start with Captain Max Miles opening up the scoring with a penalty. Slough continued to put on the pressure with a drop goal by Joe Sole. With the somewhat overly physical play by Alchester they conceded another penalty that Max popped between the posts.
Slough were now 0-9 up, when Alchester came back with a converted try. Again Slough battled against high tackles and some dubious ‘rucking’ to gain 2 more penalties before half time, Max happily slotting them both between the posts to finish at half time 7-15 up on the home side.
The second half started well for Slough with Alchester giving away another penalty which Max kicked over to put Slough 11 points ahead at 7-18. Half way through the second half the wheels came off the Slough bus and the momentum was lost. Slough were left defending and getting in an ‘arm wrestling’ match which let Alchester back into the game where they managed to score several tries in succession leaving the final score a disappointing 31-18 to Alchester.
Hopefully this weekend the home team will prevail and get a much needed win against Chesham in the final game of the 2015-16 season. Don’t forget to come along and show your support #upthegreenies
