Slough opened the season’s league campaign with a home fixture against Chesham.

Not a good start for Slough, with no less than four players having to undergo fitness tests before the game.
It was a wet day after a long dry period, making the condition quite slippery.

Chesham started well putting Slough under pressure, forcing a penalty on the Slough ten metre line. Chesham opted for goal, but were unsuccessful with the kick.

Chesham continued to pressurise but the Slough defence remained solid.

From a scrummage, five metres from the Slough try line the ball was kicked up the pitch. The ball was chased up well forcing a knock on from Chesham. The ensuing scrum saw the ball fed to Rhys Amos who drew the defence to pass to Max Miles just inside the Chesham 22. Max beat two Chesham defenders to score in the corner. Slough was unsuccessful with the conversion.

Chesham attacked well from the restart. Slough were adjudged offside by the referee giving Chesham a kick in front of the posts. Chesham opted for goal and were successful with the kick.
5 – 3 18mins

Chesham continue to throw everything at Slough, but Slough’s defence remained resilient.

From a ruck in the Slough 22, the ball was kicked down the pitch, chased by Billy Young, who caught the Chesham defender with the ball forcing a penalty on the Chesham 10metre line. Slough opted for goal, but was unsuccessful with the ball dropping just short.
Chesham restarted and a maul was formed on the Slough 10metre line. The ref then blew for offside, then went to his pocket and produced a yellow card for prop Ben Ambrose for being the player offside.
HT: 5 – 3

Slough started the second half well, putting Chesham under pressure. Robbie Morrison came on in the centre proving to be a hard man for any defence to stop. Morrison’s burst through was stopped just short of the Chesham try line. A maul was set but Slough were penalised again for an infringement, allowing Chesham to clear their lines.

More pressure from Slough won them a penalty on the Chesham 10metre line. Slough opted for goal but was again unsuccessful with the kick.

Slough’s scrummage was really going well now, but for some reason they just couldn’t get their backs going to recent form. Slough were conceding far too many penalties, putting them under constant pressure.

Slough continued to attack, but unable to turn pressure into points. Chesham’s defence being as resilient as Slough’s.

With a long kick down field, Chesham again start to test the Slough defence. From a Slough scrummage in their 22 Chesham wheeled and won the ball, feeding their backs to score in the corner. Chesham was successful with an excellent kick from the touchline.
5 – 10 80mins

From the restart Slough was again penalised allowing Chesham to kick deep in the corner. From the ensuing lineout, Slough was yet again penalised giving Chesham another kick at goal. Chesham was successful with the last kick of the game, denying Slough even a bonus point.
