Slough sent a squad of 9 to take part in Staines festival. This was the first festival experience for players and coaches and they had a great time.

In the first game against Harlequins B, Slough scored three tries, all three scored by Freddie following good attacking play by all the team supporting one another with good teamwork and enjoying the game.

Our second game was against our hosts – Staines. This game was played in excellent spirit. Slough scored two well worked tries, one by James and one by Omar with the rest of the team working well to create other opportunities which were prevented by some good defending from Staines.

Our third game against Twickenham B was our hardest game. Slough attacked well, but a few knocks and tired legs against a well drilled and experienced defence meant that Twickenham B took their chances while Slough were unable to register a score.

The fourth game versus Dorking B was played in excellent spirit. Slough scored a single try with Evan crossing the try-line. Freddie almost doubled the Slough score but was prevented by some good tackling from Dorking’s defence.

Our fifth and final game against Wimbledon B Warriors came quickly after the Dorking game. Slough demonstrated their teamwork, enjoyment and sportsmanship by playing the game sooner than scheduled. Slough had an excellent first half with Evan scoring a try and soon after half time James doubled the Slough try count. As the second half went on, Slough’s tired legs and the accumulation of knocks however from previous games led to Slough’s defence being breached by the Warriors. This game was also played in excellent spirit with both teams demonstrating core rugby values of Teamwork, Respect, Enjoyment, Discipline and Sportsmanship. (Warriors offered to help with our walking wounded with 2 or 3 players to play for Slough if needed – however as this was the last game, the Slough squad wanted to play on)

The team’s all-round enthusiasm, effort, teamwork, respect for the game and our opponents, discipline, sportsmanship and enjoyment was recognised by the other teams at the festival as fulfilling the core rugby values with the team rewarded with the U9s TREDS trophy.

Squad: Evan, Freddie, Hamza, James, Jessica, Omar, Peter, Rishi, Savanna.

Laurence.
