All participants must be vigilant for players suffering from concussion and watch out for; loss of consciousness, unresponsiveness, seizure, balance problems, confusion poor memory or significant fall in playing ability. Players who suffer with concussion must be seen by a qualified first aider followed by a doctor and must not return to play for a minimum of three weeks.

If a serious neck injury occurs, the player should NOT be moved until the arrival of the ambulance service paramedics. The exception to this rule is if the player has an obstructed airway or is not breathing, in which case the player may have to be moved in order to save their life and Basic Life Support will be performed.

Snowdown Colliery Welfare Rugby Football Club will report all serious injuries to the RFU, to assist in making the game of rugby safe and enjoyable at all levels for the future of the game. Injuries which will be reported are those that result in a player being admitted to a hospital (this does not include those who attend an Accident or Emergency Department and are allowed home thereafter) and deaths which occur during or within 6 hours of a game finishing. When either of these events occur the First Aid Officer will follow the ‘Injury Event Protocol’ (www.rfu.com/reguations) and can telephone the helpline: 0208 8317451. Injuries which may cause permanent and/or total disability will be followed up by the RFU and other agencies who aim to support the injured party and other involved.
