Southwick Ladies 2s 1 : 9 Priory 1s

Having already played Priory at home, Wick knew were expecting a tough game - but no one was expecting to walk to the pitch under the watchful eyes of Upper Bede School's very own lemurs!

After saying hello to these unusual spectators, the game began. Priory swiftly took the lead with two goals in quick succession. Wick played defensively with some lovely passes (nice and simple as Coach Ricko would like to see!) but Priory were often too fast, nipping in to take the ball before it reach a Southwick player.

Priory got another three goals in, but even more were brilliantly saved by keeper Mariann and the rest of defence, especially Lisa who literally dove straight in to save one! Both were very well-deserved POMS.

Maureen gave a great little pep talk at halftime, praising everyone's playing against a skillful and quick opposition. It clearly worked as Wick were soon awarded a short corner which Izi N took full advantage of with cracking shot at the goal. It was Wick's only short of the game and we delivered - a better conversion rate than Priory who were awarded more shorts but often failed to score!

Priory came back fighting and took another four goals before full-time. A tough game but actually pretty enjoyable and everyone kept their spirits high. It was also a fantastic debut for new players Pippa and Lili who got stuck in and made some great plays.
