Good progress being made on Project Diamond

Good progress being made on Project Diamond

Paul Hayes30 May 2025 - 14:58

The work to create two new Changing Rooms for Youth, Women and Girls is now well underway and on track for the new season.

It has been three years in the making, but it is now full steam ahead for the refurbishment of the ground floor of the Clubhouse to create two new bespoke changing rooms and showers specifically designed for Women, Girls and Youth rugby (players under 18 years of age).

Progress to date includes:

  • The removal of all the internal walls and partitions with all legacy electric, gas, water, and drainage services either removed or made safe.
  • The ceiling has been pulled down.
  • The floor has been taken up and cut to a new single level across the area.
  • New drainage channels for the showers and toilets have been cut into the floor.
  • New block work has been laid to create the new spaces for the changing rooms and showers.
  • New access doors have been cut into the existing Away 1 and Away 2 changing rooms.

We are extremely grateful for the dedication and professionalism of our Build Partner R & R A Daniel Building Contractors.

As you can imagine this is a big undertaking for St Austell RFC and there will inevitably be some short-term disruption while the building works are ongoing.

The site is strictly off limits for safety reasons so please following all instructions and diversions that may be in place in and around the Clubhouse. Thank you for your patience and understanding!

These significant renovations and improvements have been made possible thanks to the financial support provided by:

  • The RFU’s Impact ’25 fund, the legacy programme associated with the 2025 Women’s Rugby World Cup.
  • Mark Benevolent Fund part of the Grand Lodge of Mark Master Masons.
  • Jewson – who are the primary materials supplier for the project.
  • The contributions of our sponsors and members who have supported the Project.

If you know of any local businesses who may be interested in sponsoring any part of the refurbishment or have ideas for events or initiatives to raise funds for Project Diamond, then please contact:

We will also be looking to utilise the considerable skills and expertise that exist within the membership and sponsors at St Austell RFC. We will be looking for volunteers to support the project in 2025 so please look out for opportunities to assist in making this wonderful initiative a reality.

These are exciting times, so watch out for further progress updates in the coming weeks as well as confirmation on the opening events for the new changing rooms and the new entrance to the Clubhouse.
