Volunteers are the beating heart of St Austell RFC, these are the people who selflessly give up their precious time to undertake important tasks in support of the Club. Their skills and knowledge set alongside their energy and passion make Tregorrick a very special place.

Even by the incredibly high standards of our many volunteers, Gary “Hoops” Hooper regularly goes above and beyond. The number of hours he has spent painting, fixing leaks, mending our toilets and repairing our heating system is staggering, saving the Club a fortune in call out charges. Hoops is a key member of our match day team hosting visitors and managing the 50:50 draw.

No job is too hard or beneath him and the work is always completed with a cheery smile and often with a Cornish song or sea shanty.

Last season I submitted a nomination to the RFU’s Honda Volunteer Recognition Programme, and I am delighted to confirm that RFU President Rob Brier has agreed with me – that Gary Hooper is quite simply a fantastic Clubman and a True Saint.
