1. Club History

Stockport Cricket Club dates back to 1855 and over the years a number of events have shaped the club's history. The club has had grounds on Charles Street in Hillgate and on Greek Street before moving to their present Cale Green home in 1883.

Over the years the club has moved through a number of leagues including the Manchester Association, Central Lancashire league, Derbyshire and Cheshire League, Meller Braggins League and the club is currently a member of the Cheshire Pyramid System and the first XI is playing its cricket in the Cheshire County Cricket League.

In this time a number of famous names have played at Stockport, mainly in the Central Lancashire days, including Indian all-rounder Vinoo Mankad, England fast bowler Brian Statham and test and first class umpire Barry Duddleston and any number of opposition professionals including much of the great West Indian side of the 1980s.

Off the cricket field other events have shaped the club, with the two world wars taking the lives of 18 club members in combat. As a tribute to this a war memorial stands at the corner of the ground.
