Touchline Protocol 3 of 3

3. Touchline Protocol - Snr Rugby

TOUCHLINE PROTOCOL

This Rugby Club conforms with RFU regulations regarding
touchline protocol.

This means:

All spectators must remain behind the barriers - 1st Team
pitch only or for all other pitches clear of pitch. WE are
responsible for the safety of spectators and players in
ALL matches. ECRU have recommended that barriers
should be erected on ALL pitches/grids to safeguard
spectators and players. Temporary barriers are
acceptable even if only on one side, behind which ALL
spectators will stand, providing that this allows a two
metre space from the touchline.

Permitted personnel only are allowed pitch side, but
within the ‘Technical Area’- Manager/Coach,
Physio/medical, Water Carriers, Kicking T Carriers and
Team Replacements. No photographers, advisors, press
or any Juniors in Senior Matches.

The above permitted personnel should remain in the
technical area at all times unless required on pitch. All
15-a-side pitches must have two ‘Technical Areas’ on
the same side of the pitch. Permitted personnel are: no
more than four water carriers (not to be replacements)
per team (including medical staff and replacement
players) and the Coach and Team Manager ONLY.

Replacements must warm up away from pitch side – on
other side of barrier for 1st Team pitch or clear of the
pitch (i.e. behind the dead ball areas) for all other
pitches.

Managers/Coaches “running touch” should refrain from
‘coaching’ their team from pitch side; if they wish to
Coach, then this must be done from behind the barrier.
No exceptions are permitted. A replacement can run
touch.

Failure to comply can lead to individuals/ teams / the Club being cited and
disciplinary action taken by Eastern Counties or recommended to other
constituent bodies by Eastern Counties.

May we therefore please ask ALL teams to adhere to the above protocol and
also encourage your opposition to do the same.

Thank you !!!
