3. History 3

In the meantime, Malcolm Catling, Lenny Holmes and Bob Taylor were chasing the Lottery Giants to get our brand new clubhouse. It was all happening at Thornhill in 2000. In 2001, Thornhill played Hunslet, in 2003 it was Keighley and then in 2006, Thornhill struck again by beating a professional club. The victims being Workington Town at Rams Stadium. The reward for this was a trip to France to play Catalan Dragons. This was followed by a National Conference final at Mount Pleasant against Oulton, unfortunately losing a game where we could have won.

In 2007 we had the distinction of playing a Russian side in the RL Cup. Once again Overthorpe Park was packed out. Over the years we have produced many fine players for the professional game. We have had many lads gain representative honours and most importantly we have produced a lot of good sportsmen. A lot of this is down to people who put in many hours of voluntary work to produce a game which is character building and makes young people aware of life.
