With your help, we can secure the future of our very special rugby club.
Twickenham RFC has always been about much more than the game.
It's about providing a safe, welcoming and enjoyable environment where children, young people and adults can play rugby, make lifelong friendships and become part of something bigger than themselves. It's about volunteers giving their time, coaches developing players, and members creating a club we're all proud to call home.
Like many community sports clubs, however, the financial reality has become increasingly challenging.
While membership subscriptions, sponsorship, partnerships, venue hire, food and drink, the Centenary Club and of course our wonderful festival all play an important role in generating revenue, they do not provide the consistent income needed to sustain and develop everything we do. Rising operating costs mean that the gap between costs and revenue is growing. Up until now the gap has been filled by large individual donations, for which we remain immensely grateful, but that situation is unsustainable.
That's why we're launching The 1867 Club.
Our Goal
Our ambition is to recruit 50 founding members for The 1867 Club.
If 50 supporters commit to donating the suggested minimum £30 per month, together we'll generate at least £18,000 of reliable income every year. And, as Twickenham RFC is a registered Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC), these are considered qualifying donations for which Gift Aid can be reclaimed by the club to raise an extra £4,500!
That level of predictable funding would be transformational. It would give the club the financial certainty to maintain our facilities, invest in our infrastructure, player development and coaches, support our volunteers, and plan confidently for the future.
Every member who joins brings us one step closer to securing the future of our club.
What is The 1867 Club?
The 1867 Club is a community of members and supporters who are willing to go that little bit further to support the club they love. Club historians will know that 1867 was the year the club played its first match. Next year is the 160th anniversary of the club. We are the current custodians of a wonderful institution, and it is our job to ensure that we handover a thriving community rugby club to the next generation, and the one after that, and the one after that………….for at least another 160 years!
We're inviting those who are able, to commit to a suggested minimum monthly donation of £30, or a one-off annual payment of at least £360, with the option to contribute more if they wish.
Your contribution will help us to:
¨ Maintain and improve our facilities.
¨ Invest in coaching and player development across all age groups.
¨ Keep rugby affordable and accessible for everyone in our community.
¨ Support the day-to-day running of the club.
¨ Build a financially sustainable future for generations to come.
The money will not go toward paying players, as that is not something Twickenham RFC does, and there will still need to be separate fundraising for projects requiring large capital investments.
And of course, if for any reason you wish to stop donating, you can cancel at any time.
Every pound donated stays within the club and directly supports our rugby community.
A Word from Our Director of Rugby
"A successful rugby club is built on far more than what happens during 80 minutes on a Saturday or Sunday. It's built by volunteers who give up their evenings, coaches who inspire players, parents who support every week, and members who care deeply about the future of the club.
The 1867 Club is an opportunity for those who can, to make a lasting difference. Your support won't just help us meet today's challenges - it will allow us to keep developing players, welcoming new families and providing the positive environment that makes this club so special.
I know this club means so much to so many of you, but I also know this isn’t for everyone. If you do find yourself in a position to be able to help, I'd encourage you to consider becoming one of our founding members.
Together, we can build a future every member can be proud of."
Joe Samuels
Director of Rugby
A Small Thank You
The 1867 Club isn't about paying for exclusive benefits, we aren’t the kind of club that would put your names on a board, or give out special ties, we don’t think our members would want that - it's about investing in the future of our club.
However, to thank our patrons for their generosity, members will receive:
An invitation to an exclusive 1867 Club pre-match lunch once a season.
Entry into an annual draw to win 2 free tickets to an international rugby match at Twickenham.
For the first 50 members, Bushmills have very kindly donated a welcome gift of a special commemorative bottle of Bushmills Irish Whiskey.
While these are small tokens of appreciation, the greatest reward will be knowing you've helped secure the future of a club that means so much to so many.
Will You Support The 1867 Club?
Community rugby clubs don't survive by chance – they thrive because people choose to support them.
We’re looking for 50 members to become the founding supporters of The 1867 Club.
If you’ve enjoyed playing here, watching here, volunteering here, or seeing your family grow through rugby here, we’d be honoured if you would consider joining us.
Together, we can build a stronger, more sustainable future for our club.
Suggested minimum contribution: £30 per month
Higher monthly contributions are warmly welcomed and will have an even greater impact.
Become one of our 50 founding members and help take our club forward.
Please contact Gareth Thomas on gt40@hotmail.co.uk if you want to help.
Thank you for your support.
