Villagers on top in Lanarkshire Derby

After last week's heartache of a final minute defeat at the hands of Clydebank it was the Villagers turn to inflict the pain on local rivals Dalziel, turning around a 19-3 deficit to steal a dramatic 19-22 victory with a final minute converted try.

The first period was dominated by the hosts, with 2 tries and a conversion keeping them well in control with only a Cammy Quinn penalty to show for the Villagers' opening efforts.

Things got worse for the Villagers when it was Dalziel who opened the second half scoring, another converted try pushing them into a 19-3 lead, and looking comfortable for the win.

Unfortunately for the hosts, they hadn't factored on the resolve of the Villagers. Using tap penalties to gain territorial advantage, coupled with some excellent decision making across the park, Uddingston slowly but surely started to fight their way back into the match. A try from Chris Roden, converted by Quinn, narrowed the gap to 19-10. When Calum Anderson crossed the whitewash to make it 19-15 the belief in the Villagers' camp was growing, and the small group of supporters on the touchline knew it.

The final 10 minutes were all about Uddingston. Driving play, offloading out of contact, and some sterling defending set the match up for the ultimate climax, and with Mickey's big hand ready to tell the referee to blow his whistle it was Andy Watson who crashed over for the show stopping try. Quinn added the icing to the cake with a well executed conversion and it was celebrations all round as the referee brought proceedings to a close, and the Villagers could head back down the hill with a famous victory the likes of which Steedman, Munday and Welsh would have been proud of.

Next Saturday, with Scotland hosting Tonga at Murrayfield, it's an early kick off for the Villagers with Oban making the long trek down for a 12:30pm start at Castle Policies
