Glynn (pictured front row, third from the left) played for Waverley from 1976 until 1997 and holds the record for the most stumpings (244) and is fifth in the list of all time leading catches (313). He passed away in 2023 at the age of 91.
Although he is best remembered for his wicket keeping, Glynn was also known to bowl on occasion and he claimed 2 five wicket hauls on his way to 55 club wickets with a career best of 5-22 against Andover 2nd in 1991.
An accomplished batsman in an era of poorly maintained council wickets, Glynn scored 5,271 runs across 476 innings, which included 15 half-centuries. He scored his only century against Fairlands in 1980, making a career best 126 not out.
Club President Herb Scarth writes...
Very sad news. Glynn was a very fine wicketkeeper who only took up the gloves after being an equally good bowler. He clearly had good cricket genes as his brother was a professional for Todmorden in the Lancashire League. I was never sure whether he was a Yorkshireman or a Lancashireman as the county boundary goes through Todmorden where I believe he was born. He certainly had some of the qualities of a Yorkshireman. He was great fun to play cricket with both during and after the game and was never short of a word or a cricketing anecdote. May he rest in peace
