About the team

Wensum Albion football club started life in the Norwich Business Houses League in the 1991/92 season under the guise of FC Warwick. The division 4 title was secured convincingly in our first season and the team also advanced to the Norfolk Primary Cup semi-final stage. After this initial success, a reserve side was formed for the start of the following campaign.

The club changed its name to Thorpe Kings Head in 1992. Since then, the club has also been known as Pickwick, Thorpe Kings Head (again) and Trowse Newton.

The first team gained two further promotions in successive seasons as Division 3 runners-up in 1992/93 and Division 2 runners-up in 1993/94. The first team remained in Division 1 until 2004/05, usually recording a mid-table position. Our highest position of 5th came in the 1996/97 season.

The reserve team spent five seasons in Division 4 before securing promotion to Division 3. 1998/99 was the reserves most successful season when they achieved promotion to Division 2 after finishing 3rd in Division 3. In the same season, the reserves won the FJ Potter Cup in a thrilling victory in the final on penalties against Rangers Exiles.

The club has been known as Wensum Albion since June 2000.

A new committee, formed in the summer of 2005, decided to withdraw the reserve team from the league after a dismal season in 2004/05. In the same season, the first team were relegated from Division 1. As a result, Wensum Albion started the 2005/06 season in Division 3. An excellent 3rd place finish secured promotion.

Wensum Albion followed with another 3rd place finish to gain promotion for the second season to Division 1, where they stayed for two seasons until they were relegated in the 2010/11 season back to the Division 2 tier.

Wensum Albion just avoided relegation in their first season in Division 2 by finishing 3rd from bottom. Following that season, Wensum built up their squad again with some new recruits and finished the season in a respectable 5th place and gained promotion back to Division 1.

Wensum Albion started their 23rd season in 2013/14 and applied their trade in Division 1 for the first time since the 2010/11 season, but with just one win in the league all season, they were then subsequently relegated back to division 2.

Several of the Albion players retired during the 2014/15 season, where Wensum went through a small transitional period and managed to finish in an improved 7th place.

Albion started the clubs 25th season in football in the 2015/16 season. The team now consists of two teams, as Wensum Old Boys joined the Norfolk FA Veterans Football League 1 and finished in the top three in their first season. Wensum Albion won their first league title since the 1991/92 season and secured the division 2 title convincingly in the same season.

For the 2016/17 season a new committee was formed, as Albion started what would be their last season in Division 1 of the Norwich & District Saturday Football League. Wensum Albion spent 26 full seasons in the Norwich & District Saturday Football League and in the final season for the league system Albion finished 10th.

It was all change for the club going in to the 2017/18 season with a new kit, new home pitch and new league system. Wensum went back to their famous blue and white kit of old. Wensum finished third in their first season in Division 3 East of the Central & South Norfolk League and enjoyed being the new village team at Felthorpe Pavilion.

Albion will be in the Central & South Norfolk League Division 3 for the 2018/19 season & will now play their home games back at Thorpe and for the first time in the clubs history all home games will be played on a 3G surface.
