Club Development

“To develop players, people and a facility that is befitting of the clubs desire to progress, heritage and reputation in the Wigan community and sport of Rugby League”

The aim of the Wigan St Patrick’s is to provide a secure, friendly and enjoyable environment for all the community. This has been achieved through the dedication and pride of the volunteers and members who have over the years developed the club to what can be seen today, but like everything the club recognises that to provide the facilities for the 21st Century then a level of investment is needed further.

The aims of the 2008-2013 Development Plan is to develop Wigan St Patrick’s ARLFC and Community Club into a facility which can be used by all sections of the community for sport and recreational purposes and to become a centre of Excellence for Sport, by developing an all weather facility and enhancing the existing club house provision.

By providing high quality facilities which will be accessible by the whole community of Ince will enable Wigan St Patrick’s ARLFC to build upon its past successes in encouraging young people into sport. It will serve to promote healthy and active lifestyles amongst all members of the community: to develop the skills and confidence of young people; to promote an understanding of citizenship and responsibility amongst young people: and actively create opportunities to engage with and support the involvement of girls and young women into sport.

The Last 18 months

What has happened in the last 18 months?

Members and volunteers have risen to the challenge of making Wigan St Patrick’s a better place for all.

· Planning permission has been obtained and funding provided through Betafence for the installation of the perimeter fencing to the pitch site.

· Ruberoid and N Shawcross provided the materials and labour for the clubhouse to be re-roofed.

· SB Partitions provided the materials and labour for the interior refurbishment of the club. This was supported by committee members and volunteers, rewiring, painting and decorating. Abtec supplied new visual and audio equipment.

· Wigan Leisure Culture Trust and Wigan Council supported the upgrading needed to the shower and changing facilities.

· Wigan St Patrick’s Development Sub-Committee with support from volunteers have raised funding to enable the bar to be screened off for use by other community groups. CCTV has been installed to enhance security to the facilities and with support from Wigan CVYS, local businesses and the Brewery the clubhouse main room and kitchen has been completely redecorated and refurbished.

Aspirations For Phase 2

Aspirations for Phase 2

Sitting back and waiting for things to happen to Wigan St Patrick’s is not an option and so aspirations have now been raised for Phase 2.

Planning permission has been secured for the extension to the clubhouse facilities. This will see the development of a new toilet block, community meeting room, smaller function room and the relocation and modification to the kitchen and dinning areas.

Environmental enhancements are being proposed for the exterior of the building, this will include improved access and pathways surrounding the pitches and club house and the final fencing off of the remaining side fence.

Long Term Vision

Like all amateur rugby league clubs training is key to the success of the rugby teams. But training should not be exclusively for rugby members but can be an opportunity opened up to all sports, promoting health and well being amongst the young that will be continued through the years.

To make sure that Wigan St Patrick’s can provide that opportunity not only from young people interested in rugby, but to allow the opportunity to widen the sports played at Clarington Park then an improvement to the facilities is required.

Rose Bridge successfully secured funding for a Sports Barn and Wigan St Patrick’s long term vision is to achieve its own 50x70m training barn.

Again external funding will be required, but the management committee, members and volunteers all believe this is a achievable long term vision.
