The Newton brothers led the chase with the bat as the 1st XI cemented second place in the league with a 7 wicket victory over Longstowe.

Against everything that he believes captain Lee Newton will be thankful that he took the advice of his peers and chose to bowl first on a blustery day.

Openers Marcus Brook 2-22 and Richard 'Scooby' Padmore 1-19 both bowled tight and restricted the visitors until the drinks break. With the wickets spread about Ian 'IJ' Jacobs on his return proved that with a Veteran amount of experience you don't need pre-season, as he bowled an impressive spell that ended with 3-28. Skipper Lee Newton swept up the tail as usual and ended with 3-20. All in all the Oaktree XI continued their impressed displays in the field and restricted the visitors to 105 all out on a tricky wicket.

Opening the batting TAJ was disappointed to be dismissed early and Club Captain Tom Walker could only manage 9 himself. However, the Newton brother's secured the victory with skipper Lee ending on an unbeaten 57 to end his drought and Ryan hit a swift 25.

All in all the squad will be happy with the manor in which they boucned back after a very disappointing result against Fen Ditton previously. The Kirkland Cup squad start their season away at Pymoor on Monday.
