Wilburton 1st XI made it 3 from 3 against Littleport this year to maintain a glimmer of hope in the 2N promotion race.

On a beautifully hot day, the polar opposite of the torrential floods the night before, the grounds staff at the Piece ground worked tirelessly in order to get the game on.

In temperatures above and beyond 23 degrees captain Lee Newton still had no hesitation in selecting to bowl first, on a damp track that was sure to dry out under the bright sun.

Opening the bowling Marcus Brook and Richard Padmore bowled tight and consistent, with both bowlers only conceding an economy rate of 2.8 and 2 respectively, the partnership also claimed 3 early and vital wickets.

The skipper then bought himself and man on the moment Ian Jacobs into the attack. Lee Newton claimed 2 wickets from his proclaimed 'line and length' full toss bowling and Ian Jacobs added to the jug fund with a stunning 5-39 from his spell, which has a dropped catch hindering his hat-trick.

The last Littleport stand took them from 59-9 all the way to their end total of 111 all out, a valiant effort from that pair.

After a cheesy tea, Tom Jordan showed exactly why the Wilburton side had shown faith in him. Against a proven bowling attack Jordan battled his way through a tough spell and showed his technical ability, caressing the ball to the boundary to make his 45. On his last game of the season skipper Lee Newton couldn't stay out of the headlines, hitting the winning runs with a well played unbeaten 29, including a unfamiliar cover drive from the mooing batsmen.

Overall, the side have overcome their recent poor form, following a 9 game winning streak with 4 straight defeats.

The division is now wide open in which 5 sides are gunning for that treasured promotion. Wilburton have their last home game against St Giles next Saturday, in which Chris Holden returns to action after some much needed strength and conditioning training in Greece these past two weeks. we are all sure they will remember him!
