This was the first meeting between the two sides as the Oaktree's hosted Isleham CC, who had been progressing up the Junior 2 North league table to sit in a comfortable 5th place.
Sticking to the winning formula captain Dewey sent in openers Lee Newton and Spencer Saberton, in what would be the pairs last match of the season for the club. Saberton couldn't exit on the high he would of liked with the bat as he was dismissed early for 8. Tom Walker partnered Newton well and after some early 'edgy' encounters the pair smoothed the Burton side to 80-1 off the first 20 overs. After the drinks break Newton departed to the dangerous off-spinner whilst Walker seemed to up the anti, dispatching one over for 16 runs. After bringing up his 5th half-century at the Piece Ground Walker was bowled for 56. From here the flood gates opened as the middle order all failed and left the side in a precarious position. Until of course Calum Steel (22) and Paul Dewey (16) climbed the side to a competitive 162 from 39.5 overs.
What looked to be a tight fixture was nothing of the sort. Oli Sellers found his best form of the season by far and simply bamboozled the Ham attack, claiming an outstanding 8-24 from 8.3 overs. Whilst Steve Marshall went for his ever-reliable tightness of 2-15 from his spell of 8. "There was movement off the pitch and in the air" keeper Saberton told us on his last fixture of the season. Saberton, who showed his smart glove work with 3 sharp catches standing up to the pacey Sellers, had enjoyed his very successful season with the bat and the gloves.
"I can't focus on two things at once and now football has started that has to take priority. I feel as though the team are in an excellent position to win the league and I wouldn't leave otherwise. And I'll be there supporting the lads at every step."
