Match Preview : Llanrhaeadr YM v Denbigh Town

By Stephen Whitfield

Saturday 9th Feb 2.30pm

Denbigh make the long journey to Llansantffraid Ym Mechain on Saturday where we play Llanrhaeadr Ym Mochnant FC for the first time in a number of years after the mid Wales side were promoted last season. This is a rearranged fixture after the original game was postponed and although we have not heard how the pitch is at the moment we will need to keep an eye on things after heavy rain today and with the incoming Storm Erik due to drop even more rain tomorrow.

Llanrhaeadr YM had an excellent start to this campaign beating Rhyl in their first match but things have not gone well recently. In fact they have lost eight of their last nine games and so have, inevitably, been sucked into the bottom four of the league table. The club have strengthened their squad, though, by signing Sam Thomas from Ellesmere Rangers and Matthew Jones from Oswestry last month and the team were apparently unlucky not to come away from Flint with something last week after leading at half time then losing narrowly by the one goal.

Denbigh did well at Penrhyncoch last game on a very heavy pitch coming away with the three points and it was pleasing to see that Kristian Pierce make an impact up front after returning from Rhyl. The managers report that they have no injury concerns and no suspensions and so have a full squad available to choose from. Joel Hewitt is also progressing well as he continues his recovery.

Matty spoke to us and said " Saturday provides another huge challenge for us as we make another long trip to mid Wales. We have spoken to the players at length this week and they are fully aware of the task that faces us but also with the impact that a win would have especially in aiding us pulling away from the bottom three. I've said all season about the importance of us beating the teams around us and this is a game we must approach correctly to ensure we give ourselves the best chance of victory. "

As more heavy rain is forecast it would be sensible to check our Twitter and Facebook account before travelling .
