Chippenham U14 win 5-58 at Southmead RFC
By James Power
11 tries on 11/11
Needless to say, with a 10 try 53 point margin win, but this was a very strong team performance from the Chippenham boys to overwhelm a Southmead team who remained dangerous in parts right to the end of the game.
Their forwards were certainly competitive, particularly at the breakdown, and their scrum worked well. However, it was Chippenham who were more structured and stronger collectively.
Highlights included:
- Good support running by the forwards to protect the ball carrier at the breakdown - much improved on some recent outings;
- The usual good penetrating line-break running from forwards and backs;
- Good fast distribution and offloading to keep attacking ball alive, often featuring good interplay between forwards and backs, setting up tries on the wings and up the middle.
- Really strong defence, including one notable defensive push half-way up the pitch that led directly to a turnover and try.
- Some super tackles.
