Chippenham RFC 3rds v Warminster 2nds

By

Chippenham win in a fifteen try bonanza with Warminster playing their part.

Chippenham were on their favourite driveway pitch, as the no #1 pitch was in use as Chippenham were privileged to host Bath U 18 v Harlequins U 18 who played out an 36-36 thriller. Chippenham got into their stride early after a 5 minute delay as Warminster had got lost on route sat nav's guys as were are so hard to find!? Two early tries by Parkes and Griffiths were thwarted as Warminster responded with their no 8 crashing over missed tackles followed by a further try. Chippenham were privileged to have a non kicking fullback in Darren Mcbibble who ran the ball back on numerous occasions. Chippenham yet again had new combinations in key positions but all fronted up, Jonno at hooker and the impressive Nick Regan showing his dad Steve how its done at fly half. In addition Chippenham were buoyed by long term injuries returning with Tom Griffiths, Matt Toye , Matt Preston & Matt Wray from OOA to shoulder arms and do battle. So it was 19 - 14 after 35 mins Wray converting. Howard Jackson who had a great game was next to score excellent try, closely followed by Nat Parkes try enjoying himself at centre. The referee was keeping a keen eye at scrum time being a prop himself and Chippenham were guilty on numerous occasions of pre pushing and boring in Jimmer no way!!? So Warminster scored before half time.
Half time Chippenham 24 - 19 Warminster
So Chippenham made one change at half time with Darren Hubbard making way for Graham Atkins with the pacey Storey moving out to the wing. So the pattern of the game continued with Dubai Jim Hamilton picking a great line and crashing over. Howard Jackson made a great tackle on the wing from the breakdown Jon Storey dashed down the wing to score great start. However Warminster withe their no 24 scoring poor alignment. Not thwarted the impressive Nat Parkes scored again, Wray converted could it be another jug? Howard Jackson scored his second try to round off a great personal game as he took plenty of ball off Wheeler at kick off. Matt Preston made way for the late arrival Matt Spurway to take to the field. The second best try of the day happened when Captain Wheeler managed some how to wrestle the ball off Parkes to go side ways and crash-over, maybe two feet out!? Chippenham dominant pack finally got the better of their opposition and marched them back 40 metres excellent stuff. Warminster winger quick thinking meant he proceeded to take a quick line out but not only did he forget which way he was playing, it appears he also forgot what colours he was wearing and with not an amber and blue shirt in the vicinity, he launched an inch perfect pass to a grateful and surprised Chippenham player Mark Adams who passed to Matt Wray to score awesome try to round off a great comeback. The last try was Warminster but the game was Chippenham great advert for DW3N.
Special thanks to all players great start to 2018. Big thanks to Mr Twitter [Matthew Stephen], Deano/Rick for running the line & Leigh for water/physio etc and just being general nice bloke!!??
