Borough Pay The Penalty

Downed by a pair of spot kicks
Downham Town 3-0 Haverhill Borough
Haverhill Borough’s run of poor away form continued with a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Downham Town on Saturday.
With new signing Rafal Wozniak leading the line Borough looked sharp upfront in early exchanges which provided chances at both ends. Both Aaron Forshaw and Cameron Watson had early shots saved before good work from Craig Pruden on the left hand side saw Wozniak just unable to reach the resulting cross.
The hosts also looked dangerous, and took the lead on 17 minutes after Ben Baxter-Hunt exchanged passes on the edge of the Borough penalty area before shooting past Lewis Down.
Downham kept the lead to the break, although the visitors started the second period the stronger with Swallow shooting just over in the 48th minute.
However, Downham secured all the points with two penalties 20 minutes apart. In the 60th minute Baxter-Hunt was clipped by a sliding Scott Lodge and then scored the resulting penalty himself, and after Cameron Watson had finally beaten the impressive Lewis Truman in the Downham goal following a set piece, only to see his effort cleared off the line by a defender, Matt Bussens added a second spot kick after a foul by Lewis Lindsay.
Craig Pruden twice fired wide for Borough in the last 10 minutes, but by then the game was up and the hosts had secured the points.
