Beccs U12s v Westcombe Park Match Report (17 Sept 2017)

Beccs Under 12s delighted to make club history as the first Beccehamian Junior U12s.

Beccs 10 v Westcombe Park 25
Trys: Fraser, Kingsley.

Beccs Unders 12s delighted to make club history as the first Beccehamian Junior U12s side (previously Juniors started at U13s). Not only looking the part in their own new club shirts, but also playing a cracking game they should all be very proud of.

Beccs made a very bright start. Fraser darting down the touchline opening our try account barely two minutes into the game. The match was very fairly matched and competitive throughout, with both sides putting together some excellent passages of play. Particularly pleasing that our Beccs boys on the whole kept their structure, presented the ball very well at the tackle area, cleared the rucks at the breakdown and kept the channel between the breakdown/scrum half, and the fly half, relatively clear of traffic !

Westcombe Park had a very useful big lad who scored 4 of their 5 trys, identifying that we need to go lower in the tackle area around the legs. Kingsley scored early in the second half spotting a gap in the WP defence on the half-way line, and making a wicked side-step to canter in, Beccs were 2-1 up at this stage and playing some lovely rugby. WP scored two very late trys inside the last minute, the 5th on the stroke of the final whistle when we understandably and correctly were trying to run from behind our own try line, only for a fumble to fall into a grateful WP players' hands.

The final scoreline therefore, in our coaches humble opinion, didn't really reflect the story of the evenly matched game. From the sidelines a thoroughly enjoyable foray into Junior rugby, games like that every week always far more productive all round, than a big win or loss. We very much look forward to playing WP in the return fixture early in the new year.

Extended thanks also to Kevin Burford for excellently refereeing the game for us.

Team: Oliver.B, Cathal, Oliver.D, George, Kingsley, Aaron, Leo, Fraser, Ellis (Captain), Ollie.M, Ewan, Quinn, Adam, Lewis, Stuart.

Deserved man of the matches from Beccs was awarded to George for work rate throughout the game, and from WP coaches to Kingsley for some snipping runs and a great solo try. Top marks too to both the U12s & U13s for sweeping and cleaning the changing rooms afterwards. Keep it up boys.
