Redhill cruised through to the next round of the Surrey Premier Cup, after a stunning second half performance where they scored 7.
Gavin Gordon rotated his squad with Saturday in mind, Lee Stripp was back in the heart of the defence. Ashley Snadden moving into midfield, to get some midfield game time, with Abi Bolagi's suspension starting this Saturday. Sam Marks returned on the right, and Aaron Johnson made his debut upfront after joining from Chessington.
The reds looking for their second home win in four days started brightly against a good Sheerwater side, currently sitting 4th in the Combined Counties Division One table. The two sides had previously met in the Divisional cup in September, where Redhill ran out 2-1 winners.
The first early chance came the way of the visitors, but the shot went wide. A few minutes later, the reds took the lead. Kery Kedze was found with a good ball over the top, he charged into the area and found a fantastic finish to give the Lobsters the lead. It got better a minute later for the Reds, a scramble in the area, was eventually stuck away by Chris Ransome who scored his 7th of the season.
It was a fast start by the home team, but Sheerwater soon started to find their feet. Matt Fairbrother's pace causing Jones and Stripp some problems, but they dealt with the lively striker well. Just after the half hour Redhill nearly put the game to bed, Ransome broke through the Sheerwater lines, but his shot was well saved by Jack Pearce.
Eight minutes later it was nearly game on, Sheerwater worked the ball well to the edge of the box for Shane Rideout who's drive was brilliantly saved by Vokaty, and he was up quickly to save the follow up. Just before the break the away team went close once again, this time a Rideout free kick from around 30 yards smashed off the bar, meaning the Lobsters went in at the break two goals to the good.
Nobody could of imagined what was to happen in the second half after a close first half. The Reds nearly scored a third straight after the re-start, Kery Kedze found on the right corner of the box, his shot smashed off the bar.
Kedze was on fire and Sheerwater were finding it hard to contain the winger, on 49 minutes he done brilliantly down the right, showing pace and skill, then a great ball into the box for Ransome to score his second, and the reds third.
Ten minutes later the Lobsters worked another great move, Sam Marks beat three defenders with some great skill and then found Ransome in the box who fired in his second hat trick of the season. It was his 9th goal of the season and he joined Tony Halsey as the joint top scorer.
Although the game was surely in the bag for the reds, Sheerwater carried on pushing forward and Vokaty had to make a smart stop to keep out the visitors. Soon after it was 5-0 Kedze again the architect on the left this time, his cross was superbly headed home by Ashley Snadden.
Kedze was on fire, but two minutes later it was the other contender for man of the match. Sam Marks broke through the back four of Sheerwater and found a good finish to make it six. Still Sheerwater pushed on trying to give their supporters who backed their team something to shout about, and eventually their effort paid off. Abi Bolagi was adjudged to have fouled and gave away a spot kick. Shane Rideout smashed the penalty home, to make it 6-1.
The scoring was far from over, an Ashley Snadden free kick was brilliantly flicked in by the impressive Marks for seven for Redhill, most thought that was the end of the scoring, but bang on the 90 minute mark, Snadden found himself on the left corner of the box, and he hit an unstoppable shot over Pearce for eight.
A minute later the rout was rounded off, Tony Halsey who had come on for Kedze made it nine! Chris Ransome found his team mate, and Halsey done what he does best scoring his 10th goal in 12 appearances for the Lobsters! It finished off a remarkable second half performance from Redhill, who showed what they can do at this level.
