The first minute of the game fell to the home side as Andy Hall was played in on goal but his shot was blocked by a Spalding defender. There was then no real chances for fifthteen minutes but then a clever free-kick routine starting with Jake Duffy passing to Andy Hall who crossed with the outside of his foot to Sam Hollis who headed over.
Three minutes later Rob Morgan’s deflected volley was easily saved by the Spalding keeper.
Two minutes later Andy Hall crossed to Sam Hollis but his header was an easy save for Michael Duggan. Two minutes after this Gary King’s free-kick was comfortably saved by Dan Haystead. Just a minute later and Spalding had the lead as Henry Eze was caught in possession by Devante Reittie who rounded Dan Haystead before tucking into the empty net. Two minutes later and Stamford were denied the leveller by a great saved by Duggan.
Duggen then poorly cleared before the ball broke to Jordan Smith who struck the ball across Duggan as he got back into his goal but he saved well with his foot. The Daniels were level five minutes later as a Jake Duffy free-kick took a deflection of the wall before dropping under the bar, leaving Duggan wrong footed. The final chance of the half came to Spalding as Nathan Whitehead shot wide.
The first twenty minutes of the second half were quiet so, looking to liven the game up, Graham Drury made a double attacking change bringing Pa Njie on for his debut as well as bring Jak Jeys on, returning from injury, for Sam Hollis and John King. Two minutes later Jak Jeys shot from a tight angle but it was an easy save for Duggan in the Spalding goal.
A minute later Andy Hall shot from range but it was an easy save. Soon after Pa Njie put a free-kick just over the bar. With around 15 minutes to go Jon Challinor replaced Andy Hall. In the last ten minutes Spalding’s defence stood firm as Stamford looked to win the game with Pa Njie, Jake Duffy, Jordan Smith and Jon Challinor all had shots blocked.
