U16 Kent Cup Win over Cranbrook
By Seamus McLaughlin
Now on to Kent Cup QF's
On a much milder morning at Sparrows Den, Cranbrook arrived very early for this must win cup game. Effectively whoever wins this final league phase match will proceed to the Kent Cup Quarter Finals.
Beccs started off very strongly with
St John scoring the first try after 2 minutes, Jimmy missed the conversion.
5 - 0After more pressure from Beccs and a great run down the right wing from St John and great support play from Toby, Beccs nearly got in again 2 minutes later, being stopped on the 5 metre line. Who knew Toby had such a turn of speed ??
Beccs scored their 2nd try after 9 minutes working the ball along the long line to
Alec who ran in by the posts with his gorgeous locks flowing from his scrum hat and
Ben stepped up to get the easy conversion.
12 - 0Cranbrook got their first converted score after 33 minutes
12 - 7With the last play of the first half
Herb got in for his first try and Becc's third, with a run down the left wing,
Ben making the conversion
19 -7In the second half the play started more evenly but after 46 minutes
St John toe punted a Cranbrook clearance ahead and behind the Cranbrook defence, gathering his own kick for his 2nd try. With
Ben getting the conversion
26 - 7Six minutes later
Herb scored his 2nd try with
Ben again converting to make it
33 - 7In the 60th minute with the result no longer in doubt, Cranbrook got their 2nd try but missed the conversion to make the final score
33 - 12This was a great team win in a very physical contest against a well drilled team with some big units to tackle, with only 3 subs available, everyone played their part, roll on the quarter finals !!!
