2. Condolences received from rugby clubs around the country, former players and others who knew Danny

Dear All

Just a brief note expressing our sadness on hearing the news about your legend Danny Irvine. I had the pleasure of meeting Danny on several occasions, he was Mr Brixham RFC for sure, he will be sadly missed, nobody could even dream about matching his efforts.

We had our own legend in the late Bob and Mary Beavis who Danny knew very well, in fact I am sure the last time they were together Danny gave them a bag of Brixham lobster.

People like these have been the backbone of South West rugby over the past fifty years, quite remarkable people.

Kind regards from Cinderford RFC

I was saddened to hear about the passing of Danny.

The family of rugby have lost a great supporter and servant to our beloved sport.
His contribution to Brixham, Devon RFU and the wider rugby world must be difficult to quantify and your club have lost an amazing advocate.

On behalf of the Directors, Committee and members of Exmouth RFC can I send you our most sincere condolences at a very sad time. In addition, please can you pass on our sympathies and best wishes to Danny’s family.

Chris Parks
Chairman - Exmouth RFC

It is with great sadness that we have learned of the passing of Danny Irvine, here at St. Ives he was held with great respect, over the years I and many others have had many conversations with Danny as our two clubs have been adversaries for many years and over the years had some great games, sadly not in recent times, he was a great stalwart to Brixham RFC and I am sure he will be greatly missed. Please pass on our condolences to his family from all hear at St. Ives RFC.

I was sad to learn of Danny Irvine’s recent death and I wish to pass on my own and my Club’s (Bridgwater & Albion RFC) sincere condolences to all concerned.  I had known Danny for some 35 years or so when he was instrumental in securing fixtures between our clubs – initially at 2nd and 3rd team level and later in our 1st XV’s.  He has been a true stalwart of both your club and the game of rugby football for many years.  We have lost one of the great administrators and custodians of the game.

Mike Berry
President – Bridgwater & Albion RFC

I was really sorry to hear recently of Danny's passing.  On behalf of all at London Irish I wish to express my sympathy to his family, particularly James & Carol who joined us at Sunbury recently, in company with your good self.

I read your lovely tribute to Danny on the website and it is obvious that the whole of Brixham RFC will miss him terribly.

May he rest in peace.

John Walsh
President - London Irish ARFC

Just read your obituary to Danny and it was wonderful.  I was so sad to hear he had passed away, he was and always will be Mr Brixham for many people.  I always knew him to be straight talking and straight with you but if you weren't then look out.  He often rang me to find out over the years where Matt was playing, if he could be approached.  And always when I saw Danny and spoke to him he had that mischievous glint in his eye.
Brixham is certainly going to be a strange place without him.

Steph Newman
Ivybridge RFC

A man who you could always love and respect. He had his say, you did not always agree and you knew it. Ultimately, someone who will be missed by all. His knowledge of the game and the administration of the game is well known and accepted by many clubs and counties. A rare gem. Invincible. I salute you Danny.

Ray Casling

There will only have been one Danny Irvine. Dont forget the easter fixtures.

Mike Walker

It has been a pleasure knowing Danny over the last 10 years. I never convinced him that moving Steffon to 7 was the right thing ... but not many convinced him of anything, I believe.

John Armitage

A unique character, it was a privilege to have known him and I owe him a tremendous debt for getting me involved in rugby and for all the enjoyment it has given me. God bless Danny at the final no side.

Ian Griffin

I doubt anyone remembers me. I am on a club photo in the archive as unknown but I played a happy 4 seasons at Brixham when Danny was active from 1965 to 1969.

I remember a club enthusiast who could always be relied on to produce what was needed even if it sometimes had RN on it :-)

I last met Danny in about 1982 on a trip to Bristol from NZ. The club was playing the Avon Police at Kings Weston and I happened on the game. He greeted me like an old friend which I hope I was.

Condolences to the family
