Burnley leave it late!

Burnley hosted Littleborough for an eagerly anticipated clash at Holden Road on Saturday.The pitch was subject to a pitch inspection at 10am and unsurprisingly passed with Chairman Paddy Murphy in charge.Ground conditions were soft but the pitch was in good nick .The weather was dry a slight wind so all was set for a classic.The game was preceded by a minutes silence for the mother of first team player Reuben Gill who sadly recently passed away thanks Littleborough and your many supporters for your cooperation.Condolences to Reuben from all at the club.The game opened in nervy fashion with little between the sides .Burnley trying to build some phases but Boris forwards forcing turnovers.The visitors won a couple of penalties which their excellent kicker added for a 6-0 lead to the away side.Burnley grabbed a penalty to reduce the arrears and upped it again but struggled to make inroads in to a strong defence .A penalty advantage was indicated and Rick Griffiths improvised brilliantly with a kick over the approaching defence regathering his kick and swerving over .The try was converted to give Burnley a 10-6 lead.Burnley were on top and from an attacking scrum they drove back Boro .Boros scrum half nicked the ball at the back of the scrum and controversy ensued Burnley felt illegally but the ref saw differently and Burnley lost a man to the bin for a few choice words.It took the visitors a while to capitalise .A big boot pegged Burnley back and Boro built some phases eventually going in for a try out wide to lead 13-10 at the break.Burnley roared back in the second half but struggled to break down an excellent Boro defence with time running out a last drive led to Marcus Duxbury getting the last touch .The try was duly converted and Burnley thought they were home but their followed a response from Littleborough as they searched for a try to take the game.Burnley kept them at bay to run out 17-13 winners.Hope the Boro lad who went to hospital is ok and has a speedy recovery!Next week it's the Cup and Colne & Nelson at home at 3pm
