PETE DAPLYN

The club have just heard the sad news that Peter Daplyn who played for the club in the late 1970s has passed away at the very early age of 66.
He had been diagnosed with an incurable and aggressive brain tumour in April this year and died on October 31st 2017
Pete was a really laid back individual but was without doubt one of the most talented and naturally gifted players ever to don a Chard Rugby club shirt and was a member of arguably one of the best teams Chard ever had.
Pete started his teaching career as a Physical Education Teacher at Holyrood School in Chard before moving on as head of department at schools near Saffron Walden and then Oxford,
He was a very good all round sportsman and was a particularly talented decathlete in his early days.
The speed and power required for the decathlon clearly stood him in good stead on the rugby field and any club would have loved to have him in their back division.

He will also be remembered by many as the sports master on the reality TV show ‘That’ll teach them’ which was broadcast in 2003.

A great bloke who will be sadly missed.
He is survived by his wife Chris and their four boys
