A 7th minute goal proved enough to give Milton the points as a largely ineffectual Doune stuttered to a disappointing derby defeat.

Milton opened the scoring with their first real attack of the game. Doune failed to clear their lines. Milton pounced to net from close range as a static Castle defence was caught flat-footed.

Doune’s early play was frantic and lacked cohesion. They enjoyed plenty possession, but struggled to string passes together. Milton’s defence was barely tested as their midfield did well to break up play ahead of them.

Allan Pacitti made a decent stop after 17 minutes after Milton broke clear inside the area

Chris Macdonald had Doune’s best effort in a first-half stalemate, but his shot drifted wide of target.

Doune made a triple substitution early in the second half as they looked to claw back the deficit.

Jack Steven forced a fine save from the Milton keeper after driving through the heart of the home defence.

Doune had most of the possession in the second half, but their attacks lacked conviction. Time after time, promising moves broke down or ended with an effort that went wide of target. Danny MacLaren shot narrowly over from 14 yards. Tam Nelson saw a late header slip narrowly wide, but their other efforts failed to trouble Milton.

Milton threatened on the counter-attack and troubled Doune on a number of occasions. The home side earned the points with a disciplined and hard-working display.
