Match report on Harrow's loss to Cheshunt. By Nick Argent

With the wind blowing a gale Harrow won the toss and decided to play into the gale and attempt to hold out Cheshunt but unfortunately this decision back- fired through a rather disappointing display by Harrow at Grove field. Cheshunt started well with some good line breaks through our midfield and only desperate defence stopped Cheshunt scoring in first few minutes. Their pick and drive game was working well and then came a monster tackle from Billy Argent on their 6 who thought he would just knock our little 15 out of the way, how wrong was he. Just after that Harrow gave away a penalty but the kick was missed. It was incredibly hard to kick into this fierce wind and Cheshunt were playing with confidence and keeping the ball alive. It was after 10 minutes their first try came, which was converted 0-7.

Back came Cheshunt deep into the Harrow 22 and it was only a matter of time until Cheshunt scored again with some good off loads and their centre darted through our midfield, not for the first time. 0-14 after 14 minutes. Two tries down and this seemed to spur Harrow on and from the kick off knock on a penalty was awarded for offside. We kicked into their 22m and some good phases and control from Harrow, but unfortunately a harsh penalty was awarded against Harrow and their lines was cleared. Cheshunt then got the ball wide and with Harrows line in sight their left winger dropped the ball. With the extreme windy conditions, it needed some aggressive running and this came from Mark Gibson as he seemed to take on most of Cheshunt. The pressure was still on and a break down the blindside with only our full back to beat and Billy again this time a try saving tackle. The last 10 minutes of the half probably saw Harrow play their best rugby of the game with some great carries from Adam West and skipper Jamie Taffs.
When the half time whistle went and the score was only 0-14 Harrow were optimistic that they could benefit from the windy conditions.

Harrow started the second half in a positive manner and were awarded penalties on 47m and 49m but both were misse. Substitutions were made at 50 mins with Des and Jamie coming on for JR and Davin. If there is one thing Harrow continue to do it’s their ability to get on the wrong side of the ref. The penalty count against Harrow cost them today and it was after 60 min when Mark Gibson was shown the yellow card for a team offence. With only 14 players Cheshunt went for the win and some further patient build up play resulted in their centre going over for his second try of the day after 62 mins, conversion missed. Score line now 0-19. With Aaron having to go off injured Josh replaced him. With Harrow heads noticeably going down they seemed to lose their way in the last quarter of the game, and the game ended 0-19. First time this season Harrow have not scored any points.

Harrow next three fixtures are against sides that are 1st,2nd & 3rd so some very tough games ahead.

Next League Match is at Enfield (Away) on Saturday February 15th kick off 2.30pm.
