Dan McEvoy lead another Harrow 7s team to win at the major LIT Sevens festival at the weekend. The Harrow side won the Social Shield to add to their strong showing at the Bournemouth Festival a few weeks ago.
Report from Dan:
Last Saturday (27th June), Harrow RFC took part in the Harpenden Lit Super Sevens National Pub 7s 2026, competing in the Social competition.
It was an early start, with the squad meeting at 8:00am before kicking off the day with a 9:00am fixture against OS Stags. Harrow got off to the perfect start, running out 24–12 winners. Next up were Random Ruckers, an experienced sevens outfit who had recently won the Oxford Open competition. Despite a determined effort, Harrow came up short, losing 35–7.
The response was exactly what was needed. Harrow bounced back with a convincing 28–12 victory over The Harrow and Plough before rounding off the group stage with a 34–5 win against Cuffley RFC. Those results secured second place in the pool on nine points and a spot in the Plate Final.
The only challenge after that was staying switched on during the three and a half hour wait before the final kicked off at 6:40pm. Fortunately, the lads had not forgotten how to play rugby and Harrow came out firing against The Silver Cup, producing an excellent performance to run out 36–14 winners and lift the Plate trophy.
After a long 12 hour day, the squad headed home with silverware and plenty of tired legs, making it another successful sevens outing for the club.
Attention now turns to Chiswick Sevens this Saturday (4th July), before the final tournament of the summer at Wasps RFC on 18th July. Hopefully there is one more trophy left in the tank.
A special thank you to Lawrence Armitage-Brain and his company, Accenture, for generously sponsoring the team’s entry fee.
