About the team

Harrow RFC U9s — Learning to tackle safely & having fun doing it!

U9s is a slow, well-supported progression from U8s — and it’s also perfect if you’re new to rugby. Please note, a player must be in Year 4 to join this team. We introduce tackling in small, manageable steps, build strength and resilience, and keep sessions fun and confidence-boosting. U9s also begin to play matches and festivals against other clubs, learning sportsmanship along the way.

When we train: Sunday mornings, 10:00–11:30
Where: Harrow RFC — head to the U9s pitch and say hello

What families can expect

  • Calm, coached progression — no big leaps; we build skills steadily from U8s or from first principles if you’re new

  • Well-structured intro to contact with clear demos and lots of control

  • Safety first — correct technique, safe landings and clear rules every session

  • Mouthguards required for all contact training and matches

  • Confidence and resilience — learning to handle bumps and bounce back positively

  • Inclusive coaching — activities matched to each child’s experience and confidence

  • Committed volunteer coaches — qualified, approachable and happy to chat

  • Fixtures and festivals — regular games against local clubs

Safety first: tackling at U9s

  1. We start with pads, body shapes and low-speed drills, then progress to controlled tackles.
  2. Players learn how to tackle and how to be tackled — safe falls, quick release, back to feet.
  3. Small groups mean individual feedback at each child’s pace.
  4. If confidence dips, we pause, practise and progress when ready.

Try before you join

Come for two free taster sessions — no pressure, no payment up front. If your child enjoys it (they usually do), we’ll explain how joining works.

What to bring

Mouthguard, boots with studs, weather-sensible sports kit and a water bottle & a positive attitude — we’ll guide the rest
