Marine were relegated for the first time in their near-125-year history with a 2-0 defeat at Farsley Celtic on Saturday afternoon.
It was a nervy start to the game as both sides needed a point from the game, with heavy wind playing a part in proceedings. Marine had chances as Steve Irwin and Danny Mitchley tried to find a way through a resolute Farsley defence with a couple of efforts, before Joe Hilton was required to absorb some pressure from the home side.
Charley Edge was booked for a foul after half an hour, before Will Hayhurst opened the scoring for the hosts from inside the box.
Dylan Sumner replaced James Joyce at half-time as Marine looked to find an equaliser, with Craig Carney’s effort being helped by the wind nearly through the hands of home stopper Kyle Trenerry.
An equaliser nearly came in the form of a strong Farsley backpass which nearly eluded the hosts’ goalkeeper, but Trenerry was able to scramble it behind with his head.
Charley Edge received a second yellow card after sliding in late on a defender in attempt to reach a Sumner cross, before James Murray came on to replace Carney.
Farsley found a second goal when the ball was squared to Jimmy Spencer for a tap-in after a fast counter-attacking move.
Kenny Strickland cleared a Farsley header off the line before Marine went in search of a goal with five minutes to go.
However, it wasn’t to be as Marine were relegated to Division One West.
