A hot afternoon in Leicestershire saw Bedford Town breeze past Harborough Town 1-3. This game was played at The Harborough Town Community Football Ground in Market Harborough. The Eagles were hoping to grab the second win of pre-season against tough opposition.
It was a rapid start for Bedford. They took the lead early thanks to Liam Brooks. Hugh Alban Jones played a great ball for forwards and Liam Brooks touched it down and he calmly slotted it home to give Bedford Town an early lead. Bedford kept going forwards and attacking all whilst playing quality football.
It wasn’t long until the Eagles had a second. It was another through ball by Alban Jones, but this time it was to Connor Tomlinson. He took a touch and calmly converted past the goalkeeper giving Bedford a comfortable 0-2 lead.
Harborough Town were not giving up yet as they kept going forwards but didn’t take their chances. That was until the bees won a penalty on the 32-minute mark. James Ireland took for Harborough Town and scored.
This momentum didn’t last long as Bedford had a third, two minutes later. Drew Richardson won the ball released Tyrone Lewthwaite down the wing. Lewthwaite played a good ball into the box and Connor Tomlinson was there to make it 1-3. At half time the Eagles lead 1-3.
The second half began and Harborough started well. This was maintained as the half went on. Lots of Bedford subs and Harborough corners followed throughout the second half. In the last ten minutes Bedford dominated.
There were chances for Craig Mackail-Smith, Connor Tomlinson, Kai Phelan and Callum Donnelly but none were converted. The game ended 1-3 to Bedford.
Gary Setchell’s men march onwards after the second win on the road in pre-season. Liam Brooks looked good again for the Eagles. Connor Tomlinson also opened his account for pre-season scoring two tonight. We play Hemel Hempstead at the Eyrie on Tuesday in our sixth pre-season friendly.
