Rampant Eagles put five past Arlesey Town to advance to the semi-finals of the Beds Senior Cup. Doubles from Carlos Lyon and Charley Sanders as well as a goal from Rene Howe comfortably booked Bedford a spot in the next round.
Bedford started on the front foot with a few chances coming and going. Carlos Lyon had his effort denied in the first minute by the Arlesey Town goalkeeper. This gave a good idea of what the game was going to be like.
The Eagles won a penalty just over fifteen minutes in when Charley Sanders was taken down in the box. Carlos Lyon took, and scored after smashing the ball down the middle to score his first Eagles goal.
Just ten minutes after this, it was 0-2. A free kick was whipped in from the left wing and Charley Sanders rose highest and headed in to make double the Eagles’ advantage.
It was soon 0-3 thanks to Rene Howe who added to his goal tally since returning to the Eagles. A corner was crossed in and Rene Howe headed in to put Bedford three up just before half time. Graeme Tomlison’s side went in at half time 0-3 up.
The second half was no different as Bedford got a fourth after five minutes. Josh Page played the ball through to Charley Sanders who finished very well past the Arlesey Town goalkeeper to grab his second of the game.
Carlos Lyon made it 0-5 after a through ball got him in on goal. His composed strike made it 0-5 and topped off a fantastic result for the Eagles.
A much needed win for Graeme Tomlinson’ side who have got their first win of the year. The Eagles will hope to bring the goalscoring form into league matches soon. Bedford travel to Coalville Town on Saturday for a massive match.
