A solid point on the road for the Eagles as we travelled to Stratford Upon Avon for the first league fixture of the season against Stratford Town. The first game back in step 3 for the Eagles and it didn’t disappoint.
It was a very competitive game between two great sides. A few shots were flying in for both teams but it was never really a concern for either goalkeeper. Alex Street made a good save early on from close range. There was also a lot of corners in the early stage but none of these lead to anything worth noting.
Stratford Town took the lead after a loose ball was played backwards by a Bedford Town player and that left Josh Hawker to fire it past Alex Street to give Stratford Town the lead. This goal was a bit harsh for the Eagles as it wasn’t a reflection on the game so far.
Bedford Town responded well to this putting pressure on the Stratford Town. Hugh Alban Jones had a decent chance before half time but his shot went curling past the post. This was also his 50th Bedford Town appearance so congratulations to Hugh! The first half finished 1-0.
The second half was more lively. In fairness, the Stratford Town defended very well against the Eagles fire power. Sam Warburton came close for the Eagles early on in the second half but his volley whistled past the post.
Stratford Town almost made it 2-0 but Alex Street got a hand on the powerful shot from the Stratford Town striker and pushed it away. The Eagles came close when Connor Tomlinson cut in from the left-hand side but his shot went blazing over the crossbar. Will Summerfield came really close for Bedford Town but he saw his powerful effort saved by the Stratford Town goalkeeper.
Bedford Town finally got the equaliser in the 88th minute. The ball was played wide to Liam Brooks who crossed it in to a Bedford Town player who’s shot was saved. This rebounded to Will Summerfield who was there to smash it in to level things up! A very deserved goal for the team. The game finished 1-1.
A great point on the road for Bedford Town against a great side. Always nice to get a late equaliser. All eyes on Barwell FC at home this Saturday!
